Judicial cooperation within the European Union and the USA

Prof. Dr. Santiago Areal, expert in civil liability of the aircraft manufacturers in the USA, gave a course on Judicial cooperation within the EU where he explained the European regulation and its implications in transnational litigation, specially with US-based corporations.  +info

Insolvency proceedings in the EU and the USA

Íńigo Gómez, a recognized lawyer, gave a course on Insolvency proceedings where he developed the differences and the common principles shared by the European regulation and the US Code. He also explained recent transnational cases like Parmalat and Lehman Brothers. This course was organized by the Gertrude Ryan – University of Deusto Chair and took place at the School of Law on 22, 27 and 29 October 2008.+info

Human Rights of companies in Transnational Law

On November 2008, the Chair organized a course where Prof. Luis Gordillo, who was visiting professor in Cardozo Law School, explain the Human (Fundamental) Rights implications of transnational corporate litigation, specially the ability of corporations to enjoy certain human rights before Northamerican and European Courts. Negotiation and Mediation Course

On December 2008, the Chair hosted a course on Negotiation and Mediation in the framework of a General Programme on Alternative Methods of Dispute resolution, which has been recognized 6 ECTS. The course was conducted by Professor Lela P. Love (Benjamin N. Cardozo Law School, New York) and Professor Joseph (“Josh”) Stulberg (Ohio State University). The teaching methods implied active participation of the students and the use of video, internet, roll playing and other teaching skills. Arbitration & Special Topics in Dispute Resolution Course

United States Antitrust Law

The last week of January 2009, the Chair has organized a Course on US Antitrust Law. This Course, conducted by Professor Jesse W. Markham, Jr. Marshall P. Madison Professor of Law University of San Francisco, has been given by videoconference from San Francisco. Among other issues, Professor Markham spoke about the History and Development of U.S. Antitrust Law, The Sherman Act, The Clayton Act, State Antitrust Laws, Enforcement Framework, Extraterritorial Reach and Enforcement of U.S. Antitrust Law giving to his lectures the view of a well recognized US antitrust attorney.  +info

Thinking about transnational regulation of corporate activity: a quick sketch of a big picture

The Chair has organized on October 24th 2008 a seminar about the transnational regulation of corporate activity, with special reference to Anglo-American legal systems.
